Catherine

The Empress Catherine the Great of Russia was apparently a lover of painting, sculpture, books, architecture, opera, theater and literature. I wanted to capture the proliferation of the arts under her reign in the 18th century, with rich colour and texture. Satin, velvet ribbons and dyed, dried botanicals all play their role in this gloriously traditional Christmas wreath, with a house-made willow base.
